The Swedish National Commission for UNESCO
CommissionThe Commission consists of not more than 12 members, appointed by the Government for a period of four years.
Members are representatives of the national agencies for culture and education, Sida, county archives, the scientific community and the Parliament (the standing committee for Culture and the Standing Committee for Education) as well as a representative of the umbrella organisation for youth organisations and non-formal education.
The Commission meets approximately 6 times/year. The Commission can appoint working groups needed within the Commission.

StructureUNESCO's ideas are implemented through the Commission through already existing structures and institutions. For example through co-operation on UNESCO-related matters with universities, research centres, libraries, NGOs etc. The Commission does not aim at establishing new structures within UNESCO’s field of competence.
StaffThe Commission has a secretariat employed by the Ministry of Education and Research. The financial means are decided upon by the Parliament on proposals from the Government, as is the case for all Government agencies. The Commission is autonomous to make its own work plan; decide on the use of their financial resources etc.
